Three Thousand Free Sterilizations and Counting!!

It warms our hearts to see, hear about, and know the impact of our work!! It’s all made possible by generous donations of money and time and the work of our partners Huellas de Ayuda Oaxaca with Tanya Lapierre, Atrapa Gatos Oaxaca, and in the first year, Teo Tails. The first sterilization campaign that we funded was in September 2022 and just recently, we hit the 3,000-sterilization mark! Check out the map below to see all the sites projects and campaigns we funded in 2024! There are so many reasons why we decided to prioritize providing free sterilizations for dogs and cats. Each week, there are numerous posts about a person encountering a box of puppies or a bag of kittens and then trying to care for them and get them adopted only to realize that there are more animals than there are care providers. And as you drive around the state, you see the hardship of the animals on the streets and highways that are hungry, sick or hit by a car. Many people act from the heart and feed the street animals which is great, but the kindest act, in addition to feeding them, is to sterilize them to break the cycle.  Is there a need for fostering – yes, for vaccinations – yes, for providing food and medical care for the dogs and cats that have been rescued by a kind soul – yes but underlying all of these worthy needs is the need to reduce the numbers of animals with the goal of having all animals in loving homes. Thankfully, there are others in the animal welfare community here that address these needs as best they can.

The thing that brings a big smile to the faces of those who work at the campaigns is when a person brings in the street animal(s) that they feed. We know that providing this service for free is key to making this happen for the street animals and for those who cannot afford this service.

We are incredibly grateful for all the support and donations we receive to make this service possible!!

The map captures all the sterilization sites since the first campaign in September 2022.
